Crossy Road

Crossy Road is one of those mobile games I keep coming back to, no matter how many new ones I try. Developed by Hipster Whale and released in 2014, it takes the classic joke—“Why did the chicken cross the road? It’s simple on the surface, but once you start playing, it’s hard to stop. Gameplay

In this game, you control a chicken, and your task is to try to navigate the streets, crossing busy roads, rivers, or train tracks without getting crushed or hit.

Controls

Arrow keys / WASD → Move the chicken up, left, down, or right. Look carefully before moving.

Space key / Mouse click → Jump forward and leap over obstacles along the way.

It seems easy at first, but the more you play, the more difficult it becomes. Cars start speeding by with barely any gaps, trains come out of nowhere and catch me off guard, and the rivers… those logs always seem to drift apart at the worst possible moment.

There’s no real ending, which I actually like. It turns into this personal challenge where I’m always thinking, “Just one more run—I can beat my high score this time.”

Why People Love It

For me, Crossy Road hits that perfect balance:

It’s easy to learn, but actually pretty hard to master.

You can play for just a minute or get stuck playing way longer than you planned.

It has this quirky, slightly silly sense of humor.

Every run feels like a new challenge.
